Last nights BSF lesson was over Romans 8:18-27. While reading the notes last night, there was a section about how the Spirit groans and intercedes for us in our prayers. It expounded on prayer and listed several questions that people ask about prayer and about how to pray. It did not offer answers to these questions because no one really knows the answer (except for God of course). However, some of the questions got me to ponder - the questions about praying in His will. One of the questions offered was "Is saying "if it is in your will" at the end of your prayer praying in His will?" This got me to think, do we add this phrase because we are providing a cusion for when we dont get what we want - so that we can just say it wasnt in God's will? Are we adding this phrase because we dont really believe that God can or will answer our prayers?
Note: I am not saying that there arent people that are really sincere about praying in His will.
