Saving Lives, One Mile at a Time
Hey everyone! I thought I would write to update you about my training for the Big D Dallas Half Marathon. I have been unable to run for a couple weeks as I recover from shin splints - and OUCH! can I tell you they are not fun?! This last week I jumped back into my training and went to a group run on Tuesday and that was not an easy workout. First we ran about 3/4 a mile to a hill and then for the next 25 minutes, we ran up and down the hill over and over - then another 1 mile back to the car! Hills are torturous! But little did I know the workout would prepare me for this weekend.
I am now sitting here with my leg propped up and an ice pack chilling me down - brr! I got up at 5:45AM this morning to pick up my running partner and we headed to Ft Worth for the Cowtown 10K (6.2 miles). I am happy to say that we ran the whole thing! (with just three 1 minute breaks!) We finished the 6.2 miles in 1 hour and 11 minute - which means we ran a little over an 11 minute mile. YEA! I always love running across the finish line and feeling the accomplishment of the goal.
Many people ask why I do this - why do I run and why do I run for Team in Training and the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. First of all, I can’t express how much I HATED running just a year ago - and now I can’t express how much I LOVE it!! I had to start small, accomplish small goals and then gradually add to the goals to get where I am today. I continue to add to the goals as I press on towards the Half Marathon on April 6th. (and maybe even a full Marathon in June in San Diego!!)
And why do I run for TNT? While running on it's own has so many personal benefits, I would rather do something for someone else. While I don’t have anyone close to me that has been diagnosed with any of the Leukemia & Lymphoma diseases, I still take great pride in being able participate in a small effort to achieve a big goal - finding a cure and more manageable treatments for cancer. And did you know that because blood doesn’t die when it leaves the body, the researchers are able to do more tests and help find cures to other cancers? So it's not just blood cancers that I am running for, but I am helping save lives one mile at a time!
But the great thing is that you can help me meet the goals and help stop cancer (and you don’t even have to run a mile!) Please visit CLICK HERE to show your support. Also, if you didn’t receive the original letter from me explaining my effort , please CLICK HERE.
Thanks in advance for your love and support. I look forward to crossing the finish line with you in mind. And if you know anyone that has been affected by Leukemia, Lymphoma, Hodgkin’s, or any other blood cancer, I would love to run in honor of them. Please let me know.

Hey Guys
Just wanted to give a shout out to my new friends Fred and Jason! Thanks for becoming new blog readers! I have to admit though, you have me a little nervous!
Help Me! I've caught a bug!
I never thought I would say it but this running thing (esp to help others) is really getting a hold of me! Am I crazy enough to sign up for the Rock n Roll marathon in SAN DIEGO!! I think I may be! It is in June. So , my goal is still to raise $2000, but now I may be running a half and a full marathon (though the full I wont really be running the whole thing). AH! I am really getting excited about all of this!
If you know someone that has been affected by Leukemia or Lymphoma (or any other cancer) feel free to give me thier name to write on my shirt - I will run for them!!
